Captain's favourite anchorages - HER DESTINY
Published 28 February 2020
Captains need an encyclopaedic knowledge of anchorages to take their guests, whatever their tastes, to places they will love. In the next of our series on favourite anchorages, the spotlight falls on the 37.3.m (122.4ft) Heesen HER DESTINY and Captain Olivier Gamberini.
Meet the captain
With 18 years as a professional yachtsman, Captain Olivier Gamberini is the ideal man to have as Captain on your charter. His numerous years spent cruising the Mediterranean have provided him with an unrivalled knowledge of all regions, giving him the ability to find the perfect spots.Highly experienced, his cruising voyages include six Atlantic crossings under sail, and participation in regattas such as Loro Piana in Porto Cervo, Monaco Classic Week and the America’s Cup. Olivier has raced numerous regattas onboard S/Y TUIGA and has been awarded Member for life at the Monaco Yacht Club. Olivier brings his passion for sailing and his strong cruising knowledge for his guests’ maximum enjoyment. When he's not making incredible memories for guests, he likes to complete in regattas, go kitesurfing, and enjoys diving, cooking, skiing and reading.
Kastellorizo, Greece
This is a beautiful island, the most easterly in Greece lying off the Turkish city of Kas. It has two stunning anchorages, Ro Island and Naulakas, where we anchor and moor stern to. They are always calm and so beautiful. There's another beautiful anchorage off Ammos beach on Schoinoussa Island, again off the beaten path in the Cyclades. It needs fine weather.
Favignana, Sicily
Off the western tip of Sicily, Favignana Island is part of the Egadi archipelago. It's beautiful, authentic and quite a change of scenery for a yachting destination. Good food, calm waters. We anchor at Isola Preveto.
Degirmen, Turkey
This is a small anchorage tucked away at the back of Bodrum Bay. It's a wonderful anchorage for appreciating the beauty and tranquility of nature.
Golfo di Orosei, Sardinia
In Sardinia there's a spectacular anchorage in Golf Di Orosei, 65nm south of Porto Cervo. It's famous for its big caves but there tend not to be many yachts around.
Roccapina, Corsica
Roccapina is a popular yachting destination but it's still just so beautiful. Ashore is the Murtoli venue where guests can enjoy lunch or dinner on the beach and in a cave - completely unforgettable. Children aren't allowed into Murtoli and we always book in advance.
