C2 - a broker's view.

New York- based broker Crispin Baynes on why the 85.6m Abeking & Rasmussen yacht C2 - much admired from afar but always private and offered now for the very first time - presents a flexible opportunity like no other

'Whatever you want to do on board a yacht, you can do it on C2,' says broker Crispin Baynes. 'Whether that's a private holiday for the whole family and entourage, entertainment for large or small groups, high end charter, living and working on board as a private owner, she has the flexibility to do it all.'

The source of Baynes' excitement is the 85.6m (280.8ft) Abeking & Rasmussen yacht C2, delivered in 2009 to interior and exterior designs by Reymond Langton Design and Brian Callahan assisting with the interiors. Originally one of A&R's 78m series, she received a 7m (23ft) extension aft during a 2019 refit to include a large swimming pool and beach club area. This also significantly enhanced her shared guest areas and boosted the natural flow through the spaces.

'She was designed and built by a very experienced owner to deliver the ultimate in flexible accommodation for a multigenerational family that loves to spend time together and wants to bring its staff along,' Baynes continues. 'In full guest mode, she welcomes up to 31 guests in 15 cabins and you just don't find that anywhere else in this size range, you just don't. But many of those cabins are convertible, into media rooms, meeting rooms, doubles or twins, you could add a gym, library, cinema, wellness centre - I've never seen a platform with the adaptability that C2 has.'

Built-in experience

In terms of features, to pick just a few, an elevator serves all guest decks, from lower to sun deck. The focus of the main deck aft is a huge glass bottomed pool and below that is a beach club open on three sides. There are bars and buffets for open air dining and entertainment on sun, bridge and upper decks and an outdoor cinema on the main deck aft.

The owner's yachting heritage means years of experience afloat have been designed into this yacht. 'She just works as a yacht, everything feels right about her and you can sense that the moment you step aboard,' adds Baynes. 'The owner's foresight means she has been built to code and can operate commercially under new ownership but she has only ever been used privately - the owner's family has pretty much grown up on board and they absolutely love this yacht. Again it's that flexibility as a platform, it's unbelievably rare to get that and it really does set her apart.'

Interiors revealed

C2 is a yacht that has graced anchorages from St Barth to Saint-Tropez but barely anything is known about her cool, clean-lined minimalist interiors, which are revealed here for the very first time. 'She's never come to market before and we're both honoured and excited to unveil her here,' says Baynes. 'She's a connoisseur's choice, absolutely top shelf pedigree and has the build quality you would expect from a leading German yard. Like I say she has been a home away from home for the owner and his family and you can see that she has been lovingly maintained with a generous operating budget. The fact that many of her crew have been with the yacht since delivery tells you everything you need to know about how responsibly she has been run.'

C2 comes to market asking EUR 90,000,000 and, says Baynes, that figure needs to be seen in context. 'First she is a large yacht, over 80m in length and with a volume of 2,150GT, that's a large yacht. Second she has an impeccable pedigree and she is in absolutely mint condition. Third she is commercially compliant so she can operate privately or as a charter yacht, depending on how the next owner wants to use her. The ability to transform between operational modes is just extraordinary and that's what makes this yacht unique. She is just staggeringly versatile.'
